Dear Michigan ALLIANCE members,

Assalam O Alaikum, It is with great pleasure that I am announcing the creation of the Michigan Chapter of APPNA Alliance. We have been very impressed by the response and enthusiasm shown by our Michigan communities and hope that this provides a valuable tool for Pakistanis living in Michigan. The support we need stems from all of our wonderful members whose input I deeply value.

Please feel free to contact the council or myself. You may reach me by email, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ,  or by phone, (989) 745-5190.

President, APPNA Alliance MI Chapter

APPNA Alliance Michigan Chapter Goals

  • Try to improve and build strong networking amongst various Pakistani communities in Michigan.
  • Raise awareness of domestic violence and other important issues.
  • Arrange an out door activity once a year for all the families. In the summer of 2011 we are planning to have a day cruise trip (if we see an interest from our members).
  • To provide the children of Michigan with a platform where they can improve their professional and personal lives and network within the community.
  • We have already established  APPNA Alliance MI Youth (16+) and Junior Youth (11-16). We are providing them support from other Pakistani professionals by sharing their experiences and contacts. They can get registered for free by visiting the Youth or Junior Youth page.

The mission of APPNA Alliance Youth is to provide a framework for networking, professional development, community service, and peer interaction for the Pakistani youth of Michigan. Michigan’s Pakistani youth is an extremely talented group but without a structured and focused organization, our youth will not be able to realize its full potential. Using the resources and guidance of APPNA, our intent is to create a forum that fosters team building, leadership, and academic/professional success for high school and college level students. In order to cultivate leadership and communication skills in our youth, it is essential for us to break down any kind of social barrier that may exist between physician’s children and children from non-physician families. Thus, there will be no selectivity or preferential treatment given to anyone; every single one of Michigan’s Pakistani youth will be welcome to participate in our events.

Children born to Pakistani immigrants have no idea how rich the culture of Pakistan really is. To many American Pakistani children, being Pakistani merely means having brown skin or having a Desi accent. By learning about Pakistan and its history, America's children of Pakistani descent will have a better understanding of and appreciation for their heritage. The purpose of the Junior APPNA Alliance Group will be to educate Pakistani American children about the rich history, culture, and traditions of Pakistan.

The junior APPNA Alliance Group will also promote confidence building among our youngsters. We will encourage open communication and help our youth develop their public speaking skills so they can voice their opinions and face the world with boldness and confidence.
